Are Decks Easy To Build?
Building a deck may seem like a simple project, you have posts, deck boards, and handrails. What could possibly go wrong and what are the differences between building materials? Believe it or not, there are a TON of choices when it comes to building a deck and before you go out and hire a deck builder or deck building contractor near you, you should ask yourself some of these questions to help you figure out what kind of deck you’re looking to have built. We build decks all over Central NY, particularly around the Syracuse area and we have 11 years of experience doing so, so please take some of my advice into consideration.
Why Do You Want To Build A Deck?
You should consider what you’re going to be using your new deck for. Entertaining, bird watching, relaxing, cook outs, bbqs, parties, to use around your pool? If you’re planning on building a deck to host parties, have some tables, chairs, a grill, friends, family, pets, etc. You may consider building a larger deck to accommodate everything, but you will also want to build a beefier deck. There are two different styles of deck boards that you can buy in most home supply stores or from your lumber yard. I won’t get into exact dimensions but you have your regular deck boards and you have premium deck boards. The premium boards are about the same width, but they’re thicker. They will be able to take a bigger load without sagging, cracking, splitting, or any other kind of damage related to weight.
Where Should I Build My Deck?
If you’re building a new deck you should consider the location. Of course most people want it right on the back of their house but maybe the back of your house doesn’t get very much sun, or maybe it’s right under a tree that drops a lot of stuff. Debris on your deck can cause premature wear on the lumber.
